Values and Principles

Te Kupenga Hauora – Ahuriri has a commitment to:

  • Te Tiriti O Waitangi
  • Tikanga
  • The Ottawa Charter

Te Tiriti O Waitangi

As a result of the Crown’s acknowledgement of the Treaty as New Zealand’s founding document, Te Kupenga Hauora – Ahuriri expects to be consulted and involved in the design and delivery of health and social services in the rohe in which it operates.

Tikanga embodies the way in which things are traditionally done. This principle provides the underpinning philosophy upon which Te Kupenga Hauora – Ahuriri has built its service including acknowledgment of the four cornerstones of health; taha wairua (the spiritual), taha tinana (the physical), taha hinengaro (the mental) and taha whanau (family).

The Ottawa Charter

Te Kupenga Hauora – Ahuriri acknowledges the Ottawa Charter, and strongly supports building healthy public policies, creating supportive environments, strengthening community action, developing personal skills and the reorientation of health services.
