Michala obtained a Community Support Worker role in the Family Start Service in September 2019. In the time since she has been with Te Kupenga Hauora - Ahuriri she has had many opportunities that have helped her to learn & grow not only as aprofessional but also as an individual, as a wahine & most importantly as a mother. Michala says that she is blessed & privileged to be part of the TKHA Team & is looking forward to helping more whānau in our Napier region.
“My message to the whānau out in the community is that you are not alone on this journey called parenthood. My role is to walk alongside you with no judgement & support you to achieve your goals for the betterment of your whānau health & well-being.” says Michala.
Outside of mahi Michala likes to ‘unplug’ by supporting herson with his sport, reading inspirational books & taking time for self-care by meditating, exercise, meeting up with friends, pamper days, beach or nature walks. She delights in finding a great bargain.
Her greatest achievement in life so far has been creating a better life for herself & her children. She achieved this by getting her Bachelor of Education (Primary School Teaching) Degree & completing two & a half years of her Bachelor of Applied Social Sciences Degree whilst raising her three children on her own.
Michala says, “It hasn’t been easy, but with determination, drive & persistence I was able to overcome many obstacles to get where I am today”.
