Joined the team July 2018

A Community Support Worker in the Family Start Team, Kath enjoys helping the families in our Community be the best parents/guardians they can for their' tamariki, the adults of the future. Her only request of the families she works with, “Open the door when we knock. You will be opening the door to great support for you and your family”.

Kath previously worked as a School-Based Nurse and post-crisis counsellor in Central Hawkes Bay. "You have to build a relationship and what I like about Te Kupenga Hauora - Ahuriri is that they understand the kaupapa. We don't put a time restriction in place. It's about taking things at the pace they (whānau we work with) need," says Kath.

As a Registered Nurse Kath also runs a Rangatahi Health Wellness Hub each Monday, 3.30pm to 5pm helping young people open up about their health and wellbeing. Appointments at the Rangatahi Wellness Hub are FREE and available for those youth aged 12-24 years old. Kath is able to tautoko young people so that they stay safe and healthy at this stage of their life. The majority of the health education and assistance rangatahi see her for are sexual and mental health. Her confidential services include contraception, STI checks, pregnancy tests, support for termination and referrals to other services that can help, such as Stop Smoking or emotional issues.

Outside of work, Kath enjoys being part of a family who love and supports one another.  During her ‘downtime’, Kath enjoys spending quality time with family and friends, reading and walking by the sea.

Kath has a NZQA Certificate in Care of the Elderly, a Bachelor of Nursing (Registered Nurse) and a Post Graduate paper in Advanced Nursing - Assessment and Diagnostic Reasoning.
