Kaiarataki- Paiheretia Te Muka Tangata ki Te Ao Marama

Te Kupenga Hauora Ahuriri is seeking a passionate, skilled, and experienced Kaiarataki to join our team delivering the Paiheretia Te Muka Tāngata programme — an initiative dedicated to addressing systemic disparities affecting Māori in the justice system.

This role is based in Napier and focuses on supporting whānau engaged with the Family Court, drawing on Whānau Ora approaches that reflect holistic well-being, cultural identity, and collective aspirations.

About the Role

You’ll bridge the gap between the legal system and whānau by:

  • Facilitating hui to build trust, understand whānau narratives, and strengthen relationships.
  • Collaborating with agencies, iwi, and stakeholders to identify supports and co-create whānau plans.
  • Advocating for whānau in court processes, including written reports to Judges.
  • Conducting needs assessments and maintaining accurate records.
  • Connecting whānau with Ministry of Justice staff, community services, and more.

We’re Looking for Someone With:

  • Proven experience working with whānau in a culturally responsive, mana-enhancing way.
  • Strong facilitation, relationship-building, and planning skills.
  • Understanding of the Family Court system and its impact on whānau.
  • Commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi and kaupapa Māori approaches.
  • Ability to collaborate across agencies while maintaining confidentiality.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
