Whānau Navigator (Pou Tokomanawa-Whakapakari)

As a Kaiwhakamana, you will be at the heart of whānau transformation building trust, developing whānau plans, advocating for the voice of tamariki, and connecting whānau with the services and support they need to thrive.

You will work closely with the Pou Tokomanawa, Service Manager, and a wide network of providers, funders, and iwi partners to create sustained, positive outcomes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Build strong relationships through whakawhanaungatanga.
  • Listen deeply to understand whānau moemoeā and aspirations.
  • Co-develop personalised whānau plans, identifying support people (pou) and next steps.
  • Facilitate whānau hui and support decision-making processes.
  • Be a strong advocate for tamariki and whānau across services—health, education, legal, social.
  • Support whānau as they move toward mauri ora.
  • Develop exit strategies to ensure long-term support networks.
  • Act quickly and appropriately where safety concerns arise.
  • Capture whānau voice and help identify trends and areas for growth.
  • Strengthen ties with iwi, Oranga Tamariki, service providers, and community groups.
  • Represent Te Ara Namunamu with integrity and commitment to kaupapa Māori.

Ideally the person we are looking for should be:

  • Grounded in te ao Māori, kaupapa Māori practices, and confident in tikanga and te reo
  • A natural relationship-builder with strong communication and active listeningskills
  • Experienced in working with whānau who may face complex challenges
  • Able to navigate service systems while keeping the needs of tamariki and whānau at the centre
  • Passionate about transformational change and whānau-led solutions
